From Remedial to Olympiad.
I still remember the day in June 2024 when we conducted level-based assessments to identify learning gaps among children. Many of them struggled to read even the basic text. That was when we decided to start daily remedial classes to gradually bring these children to an age-appropriate level of learning.
After a year in 2025, as some students started showing good progress, we decided to give them exposure to the competitive English, Maths and Science Olympiad exams, being fully aware that it would be tough, as the papers include CBSE/ICSE-level questions. Our Aikya teachers took up this challenge with great dedication and started one-hour morning extra classes for 35 selected students (27 girls and 8 boys). Almost all the students performed very well in Level 1 of the Olympiad, though they could not qualify for Level 2. For us, what matters most is their effort, upward progress, and growing parental awareness.
Yesterday, we celebrated their effort and progress with immense pride by giving them medals and certificates. It has been 18 months and we continue to run remedial classes every day for children with learning difficulties because these children matter to us equally. Our intent is to help them attain at least functional level literacy and numeracy skills.
